ISLAMABAD: The number of coronavirus cases could cross the 50,000 mark by the end of April, Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services (MNHS) said in a report submitted to the Supreme Court on Saturday.
“It’s expected [that] 2,392 critical patients [might] need intensive care, while 7,024 serious patients and 41,482 others who would have mild symptoms might just require isolation at their homes,” excerpts from the report said.
Pakistan entered the third week of a partial lockdown on Sunday, to contain the spread of the deadly disease which has killed 45 people thus far.
The number of cases rose to nearly 2,900 on Saturday, after more infections were reported in Islamabad, Punjab and Sindh provinces, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The MNHS report added that in nearly 35 days since the outbreak, the number of confirmed cases continued to remain low in Pakistan as compared to Iran and countries across Europe.
To facilitate authorities in the anti-virus measures, 13,000 health facilities have been entrusted with collecting surveillance data, in addition to spreading awareness about the disease across the country.
