ISLAMABAD: A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck several parts of Makran Division in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province Sunday evening, local media reported.
The quake struck coastal areas in Balochistan at a depth of 30 kilometers, with its epicenter located near the Pasni fishing town, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre.
"Tremors were felt in the Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara, and Kech areas of the province," Pakistan's Geo News channel reported.
“No casualties or damage to property were immediately reported.”
The southwestern Pakistani province has already been ravaged by torrential monsoon rains and flash floods since mid-June.
At least 127 people have so far died in various rain-related incidents in Balochistan, with more than 16,000 houses completely or partially destroyed and flood waters washing away around 640 kilometers of roads, according to the provincial disaster management authority.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also visited the flood-hit Jhal Magsi district of the province, where he was briefed by the Balochistan chief secretary about damages caused by floods and response in the area.
Sharif announced Rs1 million ($4,900) for relatives of those killed by the floods and Rs500,000 ($2,400) for those who lost their homes.
