KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti air defenses opened fire on incoming Iranian missiles and drones on Thursday evening, hours after reporting a new drone attack at border crossing with Iraq.
"Kuwaiti air defenses are currently intercepting hostile missile and drone attacks following the wrongful Iranian aggression," the general staff said in a message posted on social media.
The attack came after one of Kuwait’s border crossings with Iraq was attacked for a second time.
The first attack on the Al-Abdali border post by “hostile drones” took place in the afternoon “resulting in material damage, but thankfully no casualties,” defense ministry spokesman Col. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan said.
A second drone attack on the same crossing was launched later in the evening causing further damage but no casualties, the military said.
The attacks came after days of renewed US bombing of Iran and Iranian attacks on Gulf and Arab countries.
Earlier in the day, Bahrain's interior ministry said air raid sirens had been triggered, with AFP correspondents hearing the alerts in the capital Manama.
The Jordanian and Kuwaiti militaries also reported in the morning intercepting salvos of Iranian missiles and drones.
Jordan's army said it had shot down three Iranian missiles early Thursday, while a fourth fell in an uninhabited area. Kuwait's military said overnight it was also intercepting "hostile drone threats.”
