The TikTok creator who makes historical, fantasy-inspired cooking

  • Sultan_feasts’ portal beckons viewers into a universe where history, fantasy, and culinary creativity meet

RIYADH: Scrolling through TikTok, it is easy to get lost in endless food trends, from whipped coffee to rainbow bagels. Every so often, however, a creator appears who makes you pause, not just to watch, but to step into another world.

For Sultan_feasts, that world is a unique blend of history, fantasy, and the kitchen, where medieval recipes meet “Skyrim,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Witcher,” and even “Harry Potter.”

His videos are not merely about cooking, but are a full sensory experience, complete with atmospheric lighting, carefully chosen music, and occasionally, handmade historical instruments. Watching one of his clips feels less like scrolling through social media and more like stepping onto a set for a period drama — or into a game world brought to life.

He remembers the moment it all began vividly. Back in 2024, he purchased his very first video game cookbook for “World of Warcraft.”

At the time, it was just a curiosity, a way to bring his love for gaming into the kitchen. But as he flipped through the pages and began experimenting with recipes, something clicked. It was not just cooking. It was storytelling.

He was combining his two passions — history and food — in a way that felt entirely his own. “I enjoy history and learning about different cultures in general,” he told Arab News, “which is how this blend of medieval, historical, and fantasy fusion came in.” From that first cookbook, his collection grew, and so did his vision.

Soon, Sultan found himself immersed not only in historical recipes but also in the lore and cultures behind them, translating them into flavors and dishes that viewers could experience themselves.

One of his most popular ideas, the “potions,” came almost by accident. After fans repeatedly asked for more Witcher-inspired content, Sultan began experimenting with fresh juices, imagining them as magical elixirs. He would mix ingredients in ways that looked visually striking while testing flavors that might surprise the palate.

“Most of them are personal experimentations in my lab,” he said with a laugh. “I try to imagine how a blend of two tastes would end up. There are potions I recreate from cookbooks, but often I need to find alternatives so everyone can try them at home.”

The result is a vibrant mixture of honey, tea, spices, and fruit juices that seem to shimmer with alchemical energy on screen. For viewers, these potions are more than drinks; they are an invitation to play, to imagine, and to step into a world where food itself can be magical.

The magic, however, is not limited to the ingredients. Presentation is crucial, and Sultan treats his videos with the care of a filmmaker.

He has been passionate about videography since 2012 and has worked across new media, content creation, and presenting. “All the skills I’ve gathered over the years helped shape the content I make,” he said.

Cuts, color grading, sound design, and the right choice of music are all carefully considered, creating a mood that feels immersive rather than just instructional.

Each video is designed to transport viewers, whether they are watching him knead bread in candlelight or blend a potion with swirling colors reminiscent of a wizard’s lab.

Sometimes, he even adds music in a more literal sense, playing historical instruments while cooking. Many of these instruments are Scandinavian, dating back to the Viking age, and some he crafted himself. The haunting melodies he plays resonate with the recipes’ historical roots, enhancing the atmosphere. “The instrument helps vibrate that historical feel, belonging to the era of the dish I present,” he explained. Seeing him cook while playing a lute-like instrument or a small harp creates a sense that time has shifted, and viewers are sharing a table not in a modern kitchen but in a medieval hall or a fantastical inn.

Even beloved fictional worlds find their place in Sultan’s kitchen. Recipes inspired by “Harry Potter” emerged from a combination of nostalgia and curiosity, while “Skyrim” and other fantasy cookbooks provided frameworks for experimentation.

Not every dish turns out perfectly, and Sultan is transparent about what works and what does not. “Most of my picks turn out delicious, while some do not. Out of fairness, I always mention what worked and what didn’t, because nobody wants to cook and be disappointed,” he said. This honesty, combined with his creative flair, makes his content approachable and inspiring for both casual viewers and dedicated home cooks.

Sultan_feasts’ work is more than just TikTok videos. It is a portal, inviting viewers into a universe where history, fantasy, and culinary creativity meet. In a sea of repetitive food content, his creations stand out, offering not just recipes but experiences. The flicker of candlelight, the swirl of a potion, the strum of a medieval instrument — every detail is designed to immerse, engage, and entertain. And judging by his growing audience, people are eager not just to watch, but to taste and imagine themselves stepping into the worlds he brings to life.

For Sultan, the journey continues. New recipes, new potions, and new fantasy worlds are always on the horizon, each one an opportunity to combine his passions and transport viewers somewhere extraordinary. In his kitchen, history and imagination coexist, proving that food can be more than sustenance — it can be a story, an adventure, and a little bit of magic, all served on a plate.

Top French chef assists Saudi talent to create gourmet excellence

  • Chef Jacques Rolancy seeks to develop skills, ties with Saudi
  • Good France initiative working with KSA culinary commission

JEDDAH: The Good France event in Jeddah recently brought together top French chef Jacques Rolancy with rising local talent from the Bunyan Academy, sponsored by the Culinary Arts Commission.

The 23 male and female students who took part on Sunday are all pursuing their associate diplomas in culinary arts at the academy. They are the first group sponsored by the Ministry of Culture’s commission.

Good France, initiated in 2015 by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and renowned chef Alain Ducasse, celebrates the nation’s gastronomy worldwide.

Recognized by UNESCO, the initiative highlights chefs’ skills, local ingredients and the rich heritage of French cuisine, while promoting cultural exchange and international collaboration.

Mohammed Nehad, consul general of France in Jeddah, praised the collaboration. “The participation of Bunyan Academy students tonight shows the strength of Franco-Saudi cooperation in training and culinary arts.

“Their collaboration with chef Jacques Rolancy is a valuable opportunity. They came to assist, to support, and most importantly, to learn from an (award-winning) Meilleur Ouvrier de France.

“This exchange reflects our shared commitment to developing skills, promoting gastronomy and strengthening the ties between our two countries.

“(Good France) is not only a dinner, it is a moment of learning, sharing and cooperation.”

Dareen Saleh, culinary arts instructor at Bunyan Academy, said: “It was an honor for our students to participate in such an event.

“They are at the foundation and intermediate levels of the diploma program, and this was their first industry experience.

“They learned a lot, worked hard, and were genuinely excited. Each one of them did a fantastic job.”

Rolancy, who has worked in some of France’s top Michelin-starred restaurants, including the renowned three-star restaurant Jamin, described his approach.

“I had to balance creating dishes that are both exciting for the guests and manageable for the students. Collaboration with Bunyan Academy was great and very exciting.”

Saudi culinary alumna Arwa Hamad, a 2023 graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Paris, also participated, assisting the chef and mentoring the students.

“It was an honor to work alongside chef Rolancy and Bunyan Academy students.

“This masterclass allowed me to refine my skills and celebrate the role of Saudi chefs who have dedicated themselves to building their careers internationally,” she said.

The event attracted business leaders and French delegates.
