  • Summit opened by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa

JOHANNESBURG: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan led the Kingdom’s delegation at the opening session of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on Saturday, representing Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who sent his greetings to participating leaders.

The summit was opened by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who urged member states to deepen multilateral cooperation as the world navigated persistent challenges to global economic stability, as well as ongoing pressures on energy and food security.

Prince Faisal underscored Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to fostering strong international partnerships and supporting global economic resilience at the session, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

He said the Kingdom “continues to encourage investment across various sectors,” as part of its efforts to drive sustainable growth at home and contribute to worldwide stability.

Addressing the broader global context, the foreign minister stressed that the overlapping crises, from supply chain pressures to geopolitical tensions, demanded “ongoing coordination between G20 members.”

Enhanced cooperation, he added, remained essential to ensuring that recovery efforts were inclusive and durable.

Prince Faisal also highlighted the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the international financial system, calling for stronger action to curb illicit financial flows.

Tackling such practices, he said, was vital for protecting global markets, enhancing transparency and supporting development in emerging economies.

The session was also attended by Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan, and Deputy Finance Minister Abdulmohsen Al-Khalaf, who joined discussions on stabilizing the global economic environment and reinforcing cooperation among G20 states.
