ALKHOBAR, 1 April 2004 — The Philippine Embassy team tasked to issue voter IDs in the Eastern Province said yesterday that registered absentee voters need not all come to Alkhobar to get their ID cards.
Labor Attaché Delmer Cruz said OFWs working in companies can select a representative to claim their IDs at one time.
All the employees have to do, Cruz said, is to give their representative a Special Power of Attorney (SPA), which is free of notarization fee. He said workers could send their representative to the Al Bustan Hotel this weekend to get the SPA notarized by the Embassy On Wheels.
The SPA should bear the complete name and passport number of the employee and the authorized representative should have a copy of his/her passport and/or company ID with signature attached to the SPA.
“This procedure will also apply to the families,” said Cruz.
Cruz clarified that the International Philippine School in Alkhobar (IPSA) was designated as temporary venue used for the distribution of voter IDs it is not an extension office of the Philippine Embassy as mentioned in an earlier report.
