ISLAMABAD: As a means to support the country’s sector, UAE’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi inaugurated the kidney dialysis unit a health facility in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a statement released on Thursday read.
Funds and support for the Institute of Kidney Disease located in Peshawar were extended by the Ataya Alkhayer Initiative (AAI) which will see a donation of $200 million for the facility, the UAE Embassy said in the statement.
It added that the funds provided were part of a partnership program between the UAE Embassy and the AAI to provide sustained and continuous humanitarian assistance to various areas of Pakistan as the country celebrates the Year of Zayed, the statement added.
After the inauguration of the facility, Al-Zaabi met with the director, medical and administrative staff of the Institute and told them that the UAE is fulfilling its responsibilities by analyzing the requirements of various areas and regions of Pakistan, based on humanitarian and charitable projects established by the country in the past several years.
Al-Zaabi added that the assistance and support to the health care sector is one of the priorities of the UAE’s Foreign Aid strategy. “The UAE Ambassador affirmed that Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, through the “Attaya Initiative” embodied the principle of continuity in the humanitarian contribution and sustainability in the development work for the welfare and happiness of mankind,” the statement said.
On Friday last week, the UAE announced plans to deposit $3 billion in Pakistan’s central bank as a means to rescue the country’s tottering economy.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has visited the UAE twice this year — since assuming office in August – where he managed to secure an economic assistance package to help the country overcome its balance of payments crisis.
