Adel bin Mahmoud Al-Khair achieved first place in the Dubai International Holy Qur’an Award and received a cash prize of AED250,000.
He came first amongst 90 contestants from all over the world. The award was held under the auspices of Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice-president of the United Arab Emirates.
Al-Khair, a student at the Charitable Society for the Memorization of the Holy Qur’an in Madinah, was nominated by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to represent the Kingdom in the competition.
“I was proud to represent my dear Kingdom in a great and noble competition. The UAE is my second home. The competition was highly organized and extremely competitive. I thank my teachers and the society for their teachings and the ministry for nominating me for such an important event. I dedicate this victory to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah, his trusted Crown Prince, the governor of Madinah and the Saudi people,” Al-Khair said.
Chairman of the Society, Ali Al-Obaid, said it is a triumph that is not new to the children of the Kingdom in general and the sons of Madinah in particular.

Saudi Arabia acknowledges ‘effective cooperation’ after Lebanese authorities seize narco lab
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia highlighted the productive cooperation between the Kingdom and Lebanon after the seizure of a drugs facility.
The Saudi interior ministry said the lab was being used to manufacture narcotic substances and precursor materials, in addition to firearms.
The ministry statement, posted on social media early on Thursday, said the Kingdom acknowledges the effective cooperation with the Lebanese authorities in monitoring and controlling narcotic substances.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to combat criminal activities that threaten its security and youth through drugs, by confronting, thwarting, and apprehending those involved, the statement added.
