RIYADH: The General Directorate of Education in Riyadh, in collaboration with the Islamic Awareness Department, have stepped up its preparations for the finals of the contest for the memorization of the Holy Qur'an. The contest takes place under the directives and guidance of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and is scheduled to take place at end of the current Hijri year (1436).
The contestants are required to memorize the whole Qur'an, as well as to be able to interpret correctly particular parts about which the judges will ask questions about.
The contestants include both male and female students within the general education system, as well as schools in the adult education system, charitable societies for the memorization of the Qur'an, health institutes, colleges and universities. The prizes for winners will vary from SR16,000 to SR70,000, according to the organizers.
Experts said that the objective of the contest is to encourage Saudi men and women to know the Holy Book of Allah and to spread its message. The competition will also help the students to fully understand and memorize the Holy Qur'an, and will also contribute to raising the spirit of competition among students to maintain the spiritual values of the Holy Book.

JEDDAH: Jeddah Gov. Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi attended a ceremony in Jeddah on Sunday to mark Kuwait’s National Day.
Prince Saud was received by Kuwait’s Consul General Yousef Abdullah Al-Tunaib and other consulate officials, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Fareed bin Saad Al-Shehri, director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Makkah, and members of the diplomatic corps, were also in attendance.
