Fresh heat wave to last 24 hours

JEDDAH: The eastern, central and the northeast regions of the Kingdom are expected to see a rise in temperatures that will continue during the next 24 hours.
Prevailing weather during this time will range from hot to very hot in these regions.
Hussain Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME), said this heatwave will be restricted to the regions in the northeast of the Kingdom, in addition to regions in the east and the center.
“The weather forecasts indicate the accumulation of rainy thunderstorms accompanied by active surface winds blowing dirt and dust, especially on regions of Najran, Jazan, Asir and Baha, and will extend to reach the highlands of Makkah,” said Al-Qahtani.
The weather forecast indicates surface winds which will result in blowing dust over the northern parts of the eastern regions of Qasim, the western parts of Riyadh and Madinah, and the eastern parts of Makkah.
He noted the skies will be partly cloudy in the southern parts of the central and eastern regions, interspersed with some cumulus clouds and thunderstorms. The wind speeds on the Red Sea coast will reach 40 km per hour, with moderate waves. On the Arabian Gulf, the wind speed will reach 35 km per hour.
On a related topic, the PME on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with Al-Mujamma University concerning coordination and cooperation regarding the alerts and warnings on weather forecasts and volatility in the region.
This comes in the framework of PME and MU efforts’ to realize their goals in the field of weather forecasts and the environment, as well as enhancing the role of the university to boost its weather forecast services, and national environmental performances with international standards.
