JEDDAH: Twenty two people suffered from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out on Tuesday morning in the parking area of a residential building in Jeddah.
Eighty people were evacuated from the four-story parking area and other parts of the building by the Civil Defense and Saudi Red Crescent, according to Col. Saeed Sarhan, spokesman for the agency in Makkah.
Sarhan said the fire was doused, with eight people taken to a local hospital and 16 others treated at the site. An investigation was underway.
Sarhan urged the residents and owners of apartments to make the sure the wiring of the building was in good order and to check if fire extinguishers were available.
