JEDDAH, 6 April 2007 — Prominent businessman and Chairman of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Saleh Kamel has signed a partnership agreement with the OIC Alliance for Children Victims of Tsunami to sponsor 1,000 Indonesian children orphaned in the 2004 tsunami. The agreement totaling a cost of $5.4 million is for 15 years. The OIC orphans sponsorship project, launched in January 2007, is the organization’s largest humanitarian project and is being run in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). Its objective is to sponsor 25,000 children in the province of Banda Aceh, Indonesia, for 15 years. Its coverage includes education, health, training programs, food and shelter at a cost of $1 a day.
Jouf Municipality Launches Website
JOUF, 6 April 2007 — Muhammad Al-Naser, mayor of Al-Jouf, inaugurated the municipality’s new website yesterday. Al-Naser said that the new website is a step toward providing fast and comfortable services to residents of the city. He added that the website will make it easy for members of the public to make complaints and forward suggestions. The website will also include news about the municipality and its various branches. Gang Robbing Food Deliverymen Busted
DAMMAM, 6 April 2007 — Police in Dammam arrested a gang that would rob food deliverymen, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday. Police launched a search for the gang after receiving reports from deliverymen that a gang was robbing them at gunpoint and beating them up. The gang members were arrested after police began monitoring the food delivery service and witnessed a deliveryman being robbed.
