TikTok removes over 22.5 million videos in Pakistan in Q1 2026 for violating guidelines

  • Video-sharing platform says 95.5 percent of videos were removed within 24 hours
  • Pakistani authorities have banned the platform several times since 2020

ISLAMABAD: Video-sharing platform TikTok on Tuesday said it removed over 22.5 million videos in Pakistan during the first quarter of 2026 for violating its community guidelines, underscoring its efforts to ensure a safe digital space for users.

TikTok shared the information in its Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, which covers data from January to March 2026.

The platform said the removals reflect its ongoing efforts to strengthen content moderation in one of its largest markets, Pakistan. Authorities in Pakistan have repeatedly raised concerns over objectionable content and has even temporarily banned the app multiple times since 2020.

“During the first quarter of 2026, TikTok removed 22,535,523 videos in Pakistan for violating its Community Guidelines, representing a 0.8 percent removal rate of all videos published,” the platform said.

“Of these, 99.6 percent were detected and removed proactively, with 95.5 percent taken down within 24 hours of being posted,” it added. “While 690,557 videos were restored following further review.”

TikTok said globally it removed around 184 million videos worldwide during the quarter, which represents about 0.5 percent of all content uploaded to the platform.

The platform said that of the total globally removed videos, 178,014,154 were detected and taken down using automated detection technologies, while 8,838,710 videos were reinstated after further review.

“The report also indicates that 18.6 percent of the total removed videos contained sensitive or mature themes that did not align with TikTok’s content policies,” it added.

The platform said an additional 12.6 percent violated the platform’s safety and civility standards. “Meanwhile, 2.1 percent of the videos removed were flagged as edited media and AI-generated content,” it added.

TikTok has repeatedly faced restrictions in Pakistan over concerns about “immoral, obscene, and vulgar” content. The platform removed over 25 million videos from Pakistan in the second quarter of 2025 alone.

Since October 2020, Pakistani authorities have blocked TikTok three times, totaling more than 15 months. One ban was lifted in November 2021 after TikTok pledged stronger content moderation.
