Darussalam, a multilingual international Islamic publishing house, has published translations and interpretations of the Qur’an and other Islamic literature in about a dozen languages including Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Bahasa, Russian, English, Urdu, Hindi, Spanish, French, Malayalam, Albanian, Tagalog, Pushto and Bengali.
The publishing house has always produced books according to international standards of publishing and has been appreciated worldwide. In the Muslim world, Darussalam has become a symbol of authenticity in Islamic literature. With its headquarters in Riyadh and branches and agents in major cities of the world, Darussalam is known for its modern publishing techniques that appeal to children and the youth.
Darussalam’s foremost obligation is to publish authentic Islamic books in all major international languages in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah. The main theme of these books is to present the fundamentals of Islam as explained by renowned Islamic scholars. More than 700 Islamic titles in 16 languages have been published.
For the first time, audio cassettes of the translations of the Qur’an in English by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan have also been published. The recitation of Qur’an is that of Sheikh Nadir Al-Qallawi and the translation that is read is by Bilal Abdul-Karim.
Darussalam has also launched Baba Salam, a series of mini-laptops which is gaining wide acceptance and popularity to teach children the Qur’an, supplications and other relevant Islamic knowledge.
The education of children has been accorded an important place in Islamic teaching. Children have a natural tendency to collect new and interesting information. Besides, studying textbooks, they also like to do general reading. They learn, even during their childhood, didactic tales from their grandmothers. Psychologists also agree that the tendency among children to listen to stories is a natural urge.
There is also an acute shortage of clean literature based on true tales from the Qur’an, Hadith and Islamic history, which could impart depth of vision among children. The sole objective of these books is to provide interesting reading material and nothing else. Realizing the need for clean and uplifting literature, Darussalam has embarked on a literary venture to strengthen the moral foundation of children. The objective is to bring out a series of books with the help and cooperation of technical experts, educationists and scholars. Darussalam, in line with its publishing traditions, has ensured that children’s books are appropriately illustrated to make the reading material interesting and attractive. This makes this series a unique effort in this direction.
