Last Wednesday, Paul Thurrott, news editor of Windows IT Pro and an IT expert on Microsoft Windows, published an article in response to the Zotob worm that struck Windows 2000 computers and caused untold grief for CNN, ABC and numerous other media and high-profile enterprises.

The article, “Microsoft: Worm Attack is Your Fault,” gives a well-informed critique of Microsoft’s response to the attack and reports that there are at least six separate worms that exploit Microsoft’s recently revealed flaws in various versions of its Windows operating systems. Thurrott criticizes Microsoft’s low rating of the severity of this exploit and the software company’s comments that the attack affects “only” Windows 2000 machines. He emphasizes that “roughly half of all Windows installs in corporations are Windows 2000” and questions Microsoft’s attitude toward its customers.
