JEDDAH: Jeddah Transport Company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi smart mobility provider HopOn Mobility to enhance first and last-mile connectivity and support the integration of shared micromobility services into the city’s public transport network.
The partnership aims to improve access to buses and other public transportation by introducing shared electric scooters and e-bikes to connect commuters between transport stations and their final destinations, while supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives for sustainable urban mobility.
The agreement was signed by Mojahed Khan, acting CEO and chief financial officer of Jeddah Transport Company, and Jamil Jamjoom, CEO and co-founder of HopOn Mobility.
Speaking to Arab News, Khan said micromobility could play a key role in transforming how people moved around Jeddah in the coming years by making journeys more flexible, convenient and connected.
He said: “Within an integrated transport network, micromobility can improve first and last-mile connectivity, allowing people to move seamlessly between different modes of transport, including buses, walking, e-scooters and bicycles.”
Khan said the benefits extended beyond connecting passengers to public transport, adding that micromobility could also support short-distance travel within neighborhoods, residential communities, business districts, waterfront areas and major destinations.
“This can help reduce reliance on private vehicles and make the city easier to navigate,” he said.
He added that the partnership aligned with Jeddah Transport Company’s long-term strategy to develop a smart, integrated and sustainable transport ecosystem.
Khan said: “By expanding mobility options and encouraging greater use of public transport, we aim to enhance accessibility, improve the overall travel experience and contribute to a more connected city.”
Under the agreement, the two organizations will work to integrate HopOn’s shared micromobility services with Jeddah’s public transport network, creating smoother connections for commuters.
The initiative is expected to provide residents with more accessible and user-friendly travel options while supporting efforts to reduce dependence on private vehicles and promote sustainable modes of transportation.
Khan said residents could expect continued advances in smart mobility through greater digital integration, seamless journey planning and payment systems, improved multimodal connectivity, and the introduction of new transport initiatives tailored to the city’s evolving mobility needs.
The two organizations will also explore future opportunities for collaboration in intelligent mobility and digital transport solutions as Jeddah continues to expand its integrated public transportation ecosystem.
