Saudi FM: Lasting regional stability requires diplomacy, not military force

DUBAI: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Wednesday that lasting regional stability can only be achieved through diplomacy and sustainable political solutions, not military force, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Speaking via video link at the 16th Gulf Research Forum in Cambridge, the United Kingdom, Prince Faisal said the region was at a “pivotal stage” that required greater cooperation to tackle ongoing crises and build a more stable future.
“Achieving lasting stability cannot be done through military force, but through sustainable diplomatic solutions that address the roots of crises,” he said.
The minister warned that recent regional developments had demonstrated the wider impact of tensions on global security, energy markets and economic growth.
He called for efforts to preserve the international order and create conditions for political solutions that delivered lasting peace and security, rather than focusing solely on containing temporary escalations.
Prince Faisal said a more stable regional system must be built on the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, good neighborliness, freedom of navigation and adherence to international law.
“These principles represent the foundation for any stable regional order,” he said.
Highlighting the region’s potential for growth and prosperity, the foreign minister said Saudi Arabia remained optimistic about overcoming current challenges, pointing to Vision 2030’s focus on development, innovation and expanding opportunities as key drivers of stability.
“Investing in this phase requires working to establish a more cooperative and stable regional system based on clear principles, mutual respect and sustainable agreements that achieve peace, security and prosperity for all,” Prince Faisal said.
He also highlighted the role of academic platforms such as the Gulf Research Forum in promoting dialogue, deepening understanding and generating ideas that support decision-makers in building a more stable and sustainable future.
