PARIS: The Riyadh-based International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics called for the responsible and inclusive use of AI during a global science conference at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris this week.
ICAIRE participated in the first Global Conference of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, a hybrid event that took place from July 15 to 17.
The conference brought together ministers, scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders from around the world.
Majed Al-Shehri represented ICAIRE and emphasized the pivotal role the center has been playing to transform global AI priorities into actionable programs to ensure inclusive use of AI technologies.
In his address, Al-Shehri also highlighted international initiatives led by ICAIRE, including the Elevate Program, a global initiative to empower women in AI developed in partnership with Microsoft and supported by the Saudi Data and AI Authority, as well as the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad.
Al-Shehri also outlined the center’s efforts to support the implementation of UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment Methodology.
He underscored the importance of achieving equitable geographical access to AI technologies and enabling developing countries to benefit from knowledge transfer, expertise, and capacity-building opportunities.
Al-Shehri reaffirmed the center’s commitment to fostering inclusive participation, supporting researchers and policymakers, and empowering women and young people to strengthen countries’ readiness to harness advanced technologies.
He also highlighted ICAIRE’s continued support for countries through capacity-building programs, and contributions to AI policy and governance development.
He emphasized the center’s assistance in implementing UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment Methodology, and the provision of practical tools and international expertise to help countries move from strategy development to implementation and measurable impact.
ICAIRE emphasized the importance of building capacity across communities and promoting the responsible use of AI to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, translating global priorities into practical initiatives that benefit countries and societies worldwide.
Officially established in 2023, ICAIRE is dedicated to bridging the gap between advanced technology and moral responsibility, headquartered in the Kingdom’s capital.
It actively leads global efforts to implement UNESCO’s AI ethics recommendations, publishes specialized studies, and builds international capacity networks.
