Saudi Arabia, UN provide training on women’s rights

  • Government, civil society participants at 5-day Riyadh program
  • Vital to build rights culture, says HRC’s Hala Al-Tuwaijri

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission concluded a five-day training-of-trainers program on Wednesday on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the landmark UN treaty on gender equality.

The program, held at the HRC’s headquarters in Riyadh in cooperation with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, brought together participants from government entities and civil society organizations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

HRC President Hala Al-Tuwaijri said building specialized national capacity was critical for raising awareness and promoting a human rights culture. She emphasized the importance of investing in national talent to sustain knowledge transfer and capacity development across institutions.

The program focused on strengthening participants’ grasp of international standards related to women’s rights, developing their training skills, and equipping them to effectively pass on that knowledge within their organizations.

The initiative is part of broader HRC efforts to enhance community awareness of women’s rights and ensure the long-term sustainability of Saudi Arabia’s national programs.
