Four children drown in pond in northwest Pakistan, one in critical condition

PESHAWAR: Four children drowned in a pond in Pakistan’s northwestern Hangu district, Rescue 1122 emergency service said on Sunday, while one was critically injured. 

The incident took place in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province’s Hangu district. Rescue 1122 said it sent its teams immediately to Hangu’s Kotki area after receiving reports that four children had died in a pond there. 

“According to hospital authorities, four children were declared dead after medical examination, while one child is still under treatment and is said to be in critical condition,” Rescue 1122 said in a statement. 

Rescue 1122 said its teams launched an emergency operation at the site during which it retrieved all five children.

All five were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Hangu for emergency medical treatment, it added. 

It said that after completing legal formalities, the bodies of the deceased children were handed over to their relatives and transported to their homes via Rescue 1122 ambulances.

The emergency service did not mention how the children drowned in the pond.
