RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Sunday expressed support for measures taken by Bahrain to safeguard its security and preserve its sovereignty, the Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s support for the sovereign measures taken by the leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain to safeguard its security and preserve its sovereignty.”
Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its full support for Bahrain in all steps it takes to address actions that could undermine its security and stability, and to deter attempts to target Bahrain’s sovereignty or interfere in its internal affairs.
The Kingdom also underscored that Bahrain’s security is an integral part of Saudi Arabia’s own security, as well as that of the wider Gulf region.
Meanwhile, the UN’s telecoms agency has decided to condemn, monitor and report on the impact of Iranian attacks on telecommunications infrastructure in four targeted countries in the Middle East.
Since the war in the region began on Feb. 28 with a barrage of US and Israeli strikes on Iran, Tehran has retaliated, attacking infrastructure across the Gulf.
The GCC countries, plus Jordan, demanded action at the UN’s International Telecommunications Union agency.
They submitted a draft resolution on the impact on civilian telecommunications and information and communications technology in Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE and Jordan.
The ITU council — the agency’s governing body — considered their submission, and adopted the draft resolution “by consensus,” an ITU spokeswoman said.
