BAHRAIN: Bahrain has confirmed it will take part in the 6th Asian Beach Games, which gets underway in China next week.
Faris Mustafa Al-Kooheji, secretary-general of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, said the Gulf state would compete in four sports: beach handball, 3x3 basketball, beach wrestling and open water swimming.
The decision to take part was confirmation of the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening its presence on the Asian sporting stage after a period of absence, he said.
The event provided an important platform for Bahraini athletes to compete, gain experience and further elevate the country’s sporting achievements, he said.
The Asian Beach Games played a key role in promoting beach sports across Asia and encouraging wider community engagement, while presenting a unique and exciting format that was highly engaging for fans, Al-Kooheji said.
The event will be held in the south China island city of Sanya from April 22-30.
Al-Kooheji described Sanya as a leading destination for beach and water sports and said its modern facilities and coastal setting would contribute to an “exceptional” edition of the Games for both athletes and spectators.
