LONDON: Jordan and Syria held the second ministerial-level session of the Jordan-Syria Higher Coordination Council in Amman on Sunday.
King Abdullah of Jordan welcomed a Syrian delegation led by Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani to Al-Husseiniya Palace.
The meetings focused on improving relations and increasing cooperation in several sectors, including water, transport, energy, health, education, agriculture and tourism, the Jordan News Agency reported.
King Abdullah highlighted the importance of boosting economic and trade relations, as well as enhancing security cooperation between the two countries.
He reaffirmed Jordan’s backing for the Syrian Arab Republic’s efforts to maintain its security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi led the Jordanian delegation, which included Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Soud, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah and Jordan’s Ambassador to Syria Sufian Qudah.
The two sides signed multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding.
Al-Shaibani called Jordan a strategic partner and emphasized plans to boost regional connectivity through a trilateral agreement with Turkiye, the revival of the Hejaz railway and the resumption of the Arab Gas Pipeline, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
