PESHAWAR: An improvised explosive device (IED) blast injured nine persons, including four cops, in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, a police official said.
The blast took place in Pakistan’s northwestern Lakki Marwat district, which is one of the most troubled districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
The explosives were planted on a motorcycle in Lakki Marwat’s Serai Naurang town. The explosion targeted a police mobile, according to Amir Khan, public relations officer to the regional police officer of Bannu.
“An IED explosion planted on a motorcycle targeted a Naurang police mobile, injuring nine people, including four personnel,” Khan said in a statement
Pictures shared by police showed that the mobile had been significantly damaged by the blast.
KP, which borders Afghanistan, has seen a rise in militant violence and counterterror operations in recent months.
Pakistan’s military said earlier on Wednesday that security forces killed 13 militants in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in KP.
The operations were carried out in Bara in Khyber district and in Bannu district following reports of militant presence, the military’s media wing said.
Pakistan blames militants based in Afghanistan for carrying out “terrorist” attacks against it. Kabul denies Islamabad’s allegation, reiterating that Afghan soil is not used to carry out attacks against Pakistan.
