Initiative to connect Gulf companies with approved transport providers in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: The Saudi “Transport Companies Database” initiative is expected to connect local and Gulf companies with transport service providers, enhancing communication and facilitating contract flexibility.

This comes amidst current geopolitical challenges that necessitate speed and reliability in supply chains, as Rakan Al-Otaishan, chairman of the National Committee for Land Transport at the Federation of Saudi Chambers, told Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper.

Al-Otaishan stated that the number of trucks operating in the land transport sector in Saudi Arabia has reached approximately 500,000. The Eastern Province accounts for the largest share of this fleet, benefiting from its border location with the Gulf countries, its industrial weight, and its vast geographical area.

He explained that this density highlights the pivotal role played by the Eastern Province in the transport and logistics system, especially given its direct connection to intra-Gulf Cooperation Council trade, in addition to its extensive industrial base that supports the demand for transport services.

The chairman explained that the initiative aims to address the gap in access to reliable transport companies in the region by providing comprehensive data that includes companies’ activities, services, and prices. This will enhance transparency and improve the efficiency of decision-making for beneficiary businesses.

For his part, Fahad Al-Farraj, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce, affirmed that launching the land transport companies database represents a crucial pillar for strengthening supply chain resilience and improving logistical efficiency, in addition to facilitating access to reliable service providers, thus supporting business continuity under various circumstances.

He clarified that the initiative aims to accelerate trade exchange processes by connecting exporters and importers to an organized and highly reliable transport network.

Al-Farraj underlined that providing accurate and transparent data will enable businesses to make more efficient operational decisions, contributing to cost reduction and enhanced competitiveness within the sector.

The Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce recently announced the launch of a comprehensive database for land transport companies in the region, as part of a package of development initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the import and export system and supporting the sustainability of supply chains at the regional and Saudi levels.
