Calling all northern Riyadh residents who are avid brunch-goers. Mallow, located in Al-Yasmin district in Riyadh, is an aesthetic, cozy, and trendy brunch spot for those looking to enjoy a sunny atmosphere with a menu of classic and new dishes.
The vibe is set from the turquoise door opening into an atmosphere of bright colored furniture complemented by the the sunlight filtering through large windows.
We ordered their fig salad, which costs SR30 ($8), and brings a twist to classic salad flavors. It comes with lettuce, baby roca, feta, pomegranate, and of course, the figs and their sauce.
The salad is a fresh dish that everyone enjoyed, lighter compared to the heavier egg dishes, and a great way to start off the brunch.
For my first time at Mallow, I decided to go for a traditional brunch: eggs Benedict, which is their special and costs SR38. It features brioche bread and a guacamole mix with classic poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. As a big fan of eggs Benedict, I can safely say that Mallow’s met my expectations. The mix of eggs with the avocado created a perfect mix of flavors.
The menu plays on a lot of traditional middle eastern flavors, such as hummus, eggplants, shakshuka and kibda. For example, the parmesan kibda is a kibda plate mixed with cheese, tomato and a selection of spices.
The oriental shakshuka is a classic dish with feta, tomato and onion, for those craving traditional flavors.
As someone who cannot have brunch without a dose of caffeine, Mallow’s coffee menu did not disappoint, offering a variety that ranges from Turkish coffee to iced latte options.
I went for the iced Spanish latte, while others at the table opted for fresh juice and iced tea as their beverage options.
Of course, brunch cannot be complete without something a little sweet. Mallow’s menu offers a delightful selection, ranging from French toast to pancakes.
Mallow offers two French toast options, one for whether a person is craving a breakfast option or a more dessert plate to wrap up. Their classic French toast and Nutella French toast are both fluffy and airy. The Nutella one is obviously on the heavier side, perfect for sharing as a table dessert.
Mallow is a great option for those looking for affordable brunch in the north of Riyadh rather than going more downtown and dealing with traffic.
However, when going to Mallow, one should be aware of wait times or book ahead, as it can booked and busy — especially on the weekends.
