BAHA: The Heritage Commission has concluded the second archeological excavation season at Al-Asdaa in Al-Makhwah governorate, Baha region, as part of its scientific programs studying and documenting archeological sites across the Kingdom.

The excavations uncovered an ancient mosque measuring approximately 11 by 12 meters, featuring a mihrab and three entrances, along with square column bases that once supported its roof.

The findings indicate a clear architectural plan, reflecting the mosque’s significance and its pivotal role in early Islamic urban planning, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The excavations also revealed four rooms adjacent to the mosque on its northeastern side, containing features such as water basins, storage facilities, and indoor cooking hearths, suggesting they were used for residential purposes or service activities related to the mosque, the commission noted.
