ISLAMABAD: A fourth Pakistani national was killed in the UAE on Thursday after being struck by falling debris after air defense systems intercepted a ballistic missile, the Pakistani embassy and the Abu Dhabi Media Office said in separate statements.
The AD Media Office reported that the debris fell on Abu Dhabi’s Sweihan street after air defense systems intercepted a ballistic missile earlier in the day. The debris caused the deaths of two persons, injured three others and damaged cars on the street, it added.
Pakistan’s embassy in the UAE confirmed the incident took place at Sweihan street, adding that a Pakistani national had been killed by the falling debris.
“In this difficult time, we stand with the bereaved family, offering our heartfelt condolences and prayers,” it added. “The embassy is in close coordination with local authorities to extend all possible support and to facilitate the earliest repatriation of the deceased.”Iran has launched waves of missile and drone attacks on US interests in the UAE and other Gulf states since Washington and Israel targeted Iran in airstrikes last month.
On Mar. 17, the Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed the death of a Pakistani national after debris from an intercepted ballistic missile struck Abu Dhabi’s Baniyas area.
Earlier, debris from an aerial interception hit a vehicle in Dubai’s Al Barsha area, killing another Pakistani, while a third died in Abu Dhabi on Feb. 28 from missile fragments, local media reported.
Since US and Israeli strikes on Iran last month, Pakistan has urged its citizens in the Middle East and Gulf states to exercise caution, avoid travel, and follow official adviseries.
