Syria condemns Israeli strike on military infrastructure in south

  • Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the strike constituted a “flagrant violation” of international law

DAMASCUS: Syria strongly condemned an Israeli attack on military infrastructure in the south of the country, calling on the international community to act to halt what it termed ongoing aggression.

Israel’s military said Friday it had struck Syrian army camps in response to what it called attacks against the Druze community in the southern Sweida province.

In a statement carried by the Syrian Arab News Agency, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the strike constituted a “flagrant violation” of international law and the UN Charter, as well as a direct assault on Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The ministry said the attack, which it described as “brutal,” was carried out under “flimsy pretexts and fabricated excuses,” and formed part of what it called an ongoing policy of escalation by Israeli forces.

It added that such actions represented continued interference in Syria’s internal affairs and were aimed at destabilizing security and stability in the region.

Damascus said it holds Israel fully responsible for the consequences of what it described as a “dangerous escalation,” and urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take responsibility and put an end to what it called repeated acts of aggression and threats against Syria and the wider region.
