Kuwait health ministry says girl, 11, killed by falling shrapnel

  • Kuwait’s health ministry said Wednesday an 11-year-old girl was killed after being hit by falling shrapnel following waves of Iranian attacks across the Gulf

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait’s health ministry said Wednesday an 11-year-old girl was killed after being hit by falling shrapnel following waves of attacks across the Gulf.
“Resuscitation was performed in the ambulance while the girl was being transported to the hospital, and attempts continued for nearly half an hour upon arrival at Al-Amiri Hospital. However, she passed away due to her injuries,” said the ministry in a statement posted on X.

US and Israeli bombardment of Iran and Lebanon is ongoing, including reported strikes on a hotel near Beirut and on the building of the Assembly of Experts in Qom. As the conflict intensifies, the combined death toll in both countries has surpassed 800, according to initial reports.

In Iran, 787 people have been reported killed, including 165 schoolgirls and staff who died in a missile strike on a primary school in Minab in the country’s south on the first day of fighting, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, a non-profit humanitarian organization.

Tehran has continued retaliatory attacks for a fourth consecutive night, targeting Israel and US interests in the Middle East. Strikes were reported near the US consulate in Dubai and at a port in Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.

The conflict has also unsettled financial markets across the Gulf. Stock markets in the United Arab Emirates fell sharply on the Dubai and Abu Dhabi exchanges after a two-day trading suspension. In Saudi Arabia, the Defense Ministry said two cruise missiles were intercepted south of the capital, Riyadh, home to the Prince Sultan Air Base, and that several drones were destroyed after entering Saudi airspace.

Explosions were reported in Tehran at dawn on Wednesday as the fighting entered its fifth day. Israeli forces said they were targeting elements of Iran’s leadership and security apparatus, while Iran responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel and other locations in the region.

Iran missile barrage sparks explosions over Tel Aviv

  • Two near-simultaneous waves of explosions reverberating across the city
  • Israel’s emergency services confirms plenty of damage but said there were no casualties

TEL AVIV: The latest Iranian missile barrage sparked a wave of explosions across Tel Aviv as firefighters worked to contain a blaze at a residential building near Israel’s commercial hub on Friday.
The blasts came after Israel expanded its campaign against Hezbollah, vowing retribution against the Tehran-backed militant group for joining the conflict following the killing on Saturday of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran’s state broadcaster said Tehran had fired missiles “against targets in the heart of Tel Aviv,” after Israel’s military said it was working to intercept incoming Iranian fire late Thursday.
AFP journalists in Tel Aviv heard two near-simultaneous waves of explosions reverberating across the city.
Rocket trails also lit up the sky in Netanya, a city north of Tel Aviv on Israel’s Mediterranean coast.
After the barrage, Israel’s emergency services, the Magen David Adom (MDA), said its teams had visited several reported impact sites but that there were no casualties.
Israeli police said it was “currently handling scenes involving fallen projectiles in central Israel,” adding that there was “damage” but no injuries.
A projectile hit a building on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, forcing residents to evacuate.
At another residential site near Israel’s economic hub, firefighters worked to put out a blaze caused by falling debris after an Iranian rocket fire was intercepted.
Israel’s Home Front Command issues several rocket fire warnings early Friday for communities near the Lebanon border.
