DUBAI: Juremi Profar and Isaac Milburn played an outstanding game to keep the Karachi Monarchs’ playoffs hopes alive with a 5-3 win over Mid East Falcons at Baseball United Ballpark on Sunday.
Profar hit a two-run double to lead a three-run attack in the fourth inning, and Isaac Milburn had a perfect three-inning relief appearance with three strikeouts, one of them via a successful Fire Ball, for a total of five strikeouts.
Profar finished the game batting one-for-four with three RBIs. Jake Perez (2-for-4), Isaac Nunez (1-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Max Jung-Goldberg (1-for-2, 1 RBI), highlighted Karachi’s offense.
Milburn earned the victory after 3.0 perfect innings pitched, including his second effective Fire Ball of the season. He retired all seven batters he faced with just 37 pitches (22 strikes).
Kolby Kiser (4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO), Alex Dubrod (1.0, 0 ER), and Enrique Burgos (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) completed the pitching line for Karachi.
With the win, Karachi (2-4) broke a streak of four consecutive losses and still maintains mathematical hopes of reaching the United Series.
Other highlights:
Shuhei Fukuda shone again on offense for Mid East, after hitting a solo inside-the-park home run in the second inning to tie the game. Fukuda went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Shotaro Nakata, one of the TBS’ Plan D winners, took the loss (0.1 IP, 3 ER), with Shuto Sakurai (4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO), Shotaro Kasahara (1.2 IP), Shingo Hirata (1.0, 2 SO) and Severino Gonzalez (2.0 IP, 2 SO), completing the pitching line for the Falcons.
This was the first defeat for the Mid East Falcons in Baseball United’s season one.
