Saudi Arabia regrets cutting of ties between Algeria and Morocco

  • The OIC and the Arab League called for ‘dialogue’ to resolve arguments between neighboring Algeria and Morocco

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday said it “regrets” the development in relations between Morocco and Algeria.
The statement comes a day after Algeria severed ties with Morocco due its “hostile actions,” blaming Rabat for the deadly wildfires that spread across the north of the country in recent days.
“The Saudi government hopes that relations between the two countries would be restored as soon as possible,” the foreign ministry said.
The Kingdom called on both sides to give priority to dialogue and diplomacy to find solutions to contentious issues to open a new page for relations between the two countries, in a way that benefits their people, achieves security and stability for the region, and enhances joint Arab action.
The UAE also said it regretted the decision.
“The UAE has always sought to strengthen and enhance Arab relations, and from this standpoint, it regrets the developments between Algeria and Morocco, and the severing of diplomatic relations between the two countries,” Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed said.
He added that the UAE has strong relations with both countries, and seeks to develop them in line with the state’s supportive approach to all joint efforts that serve Arab causes.
Bahrain and Kuwait also issued a similar statements.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation called for dialogue to resolve any possible differences,” a statement from the Jeddah-based organization said.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit urged “both countries to exercise restraint and to avoid further escalation” in a statement late Tuesday.

Saudi Red Crescent Authority in Al-Baha raises readiness to address weather issues

AL-BAHA: The Al-Baha branch of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority has raised its level of readiness to help address issues caused by the weather in the region.

The initiative is being implemented in accordance with the authority’s plan and with the aim of ensuring the provision of all necessary capabilities.

The authority has affirmed the readiness of its emergency centers and field teams. Some 19 ambulance teams and five rapid response teams have been allocated, in addition to the required equipment, ensuring prompt intervention and provision of highly efficient emergency services.

The authority has called on all residents in the region to adhere to the instructions of the competent authorities and follow the safety procedures during fog and low-visibility conditions. They should also comply with traffic safety regulations and directives issued by Civil Defense.

The emergency number 997 and the Asefni, Tawakkalna, and Absher applications are available around the clock in emergency situations, and members of the public are urged to make immediate contact when necessary.
