ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s highway and motorway police will use drones to monitor the country’s road network, Science Minister Fawad Chaudhry confirmed on Wednesday.
The introduction of drone technology comes in line with the government’s policy rolled out in December on expanding use and local manufacturing of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
As drones have already been used in Pakistan’s agriculture sector to fight off locust attacks, they are now expected to help manage traffic flow on the country’s highways and prevent crime.
The Ministry of Science, Chaudhry said in a tweet, has provided police with full support to implement the project.

According to local media reports, the National Highways and Motorway Police are going to start using the technology in the coming weeks.
