Pakistani PM reaffirms commitment to expand ties with Egypt

  • Khan calls for more high-level exchanges and cooperation in trade, education and culture
  • Relations between the two nations are boosted by strong people-to-people contact and defense cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to expand Pakistan-Egypt ties, particularly in the areas of trade, education and culture.
There are over 700 Pakistanis living in Egypt, and relations are boosted by the fact that both nations are majority-Muslim and maintain strong people-to-people contacts and defense ties. Modern relations can be traced back to 1947 when Pakistan was founded and founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah paid a visit to Egypt on the special invitation of King Fuad II.
On Wednesday, the ambassador of Egypt to Pakistan, Tarek Dahroug, called on PM Khan in Islamabad.
“Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment to expand Pakistan-Egypt relations in diverse fields, including high-level exchanges, trade and economic cooperation, and education and culture,” the PM office said in a statement.
In December 2020, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephonic conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry and discussed ways to further strengthen and diversify bilateral relations and enhance collaboration in multilateral organizations.
“The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue engaging on regional and global issues and working to enhance bilateral ties,” the Pakistani Foreign Ministry had said in a statement.
