DUBAI: Several international football stars descended on air-conditioned pitches in Dubai over the weekend for a friendly match, state news agency WAM has reported.

The players, who have won awards at the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championships, and UEFA Champions League, used made-shift football pitches at the Dubai World Trade Center.

The line-up included Portugal legend Luis Figo, the 2000 Ballon d'Or and 2001 FIFA World Player of the Year winner, Carles Puyol, the former Spain captain and winner of the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 European Championships, and Dutch Clarence Seedorf, who is the only player to have won the UEFA Champions League with three different clubs.

The football legends, who are frequent Dubai visitors, thanked local authorities for organizing the event and giving them the chance to come together.

The get-together was part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30 X 30 where residents are encouraged to take part in physical, recreational activities to promote health and wellness.
