LONDON: British Prime Minster Boris Johnson said on Saturday he has no doubt US President Donald Trump will make a very strong recovery from COVID-19, calling him a very “resilient character.”
Johnson, who himself was hospitalized with the coronavirus in April, was speaking to reporters ahead of a call about Brexit with the European Union later on Saturday.
“I’ve no doubt that he will, he’ll make a very strong recovery,” said Johnson. “He’s a naturally obviously very resilient character and I’m sure he’ll come through it very well.”
Trump, who announced early on Friday he had contracted coronavirus, was taken on Friday evening to a military hospital near Washington for treatment as a precautionary measure, the White House said.
Johnson was due to speak to the head of the EU’s executive, Ursula von der Leyen, to agree next steps after the bloc launched a legal case against Britain over moving to undercut their Brexit divorce treaty.
“I think there’s a good deal to be done,” Johnson said when asked about the pair’s future relations.
He said that the UK continued to push for a Canada-style deal with the EU, but if that wasn’t possible then it would want a deal similar to the one the EU has with Australia. The country was prepared for either outcome, he said.
“We think there’s a big opportunity for both sides to do well,” Johnson added.

NEOM: The Saudi Red Sea Authority and NEOM signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday to cooperate on developing legislation, regulations, and technology in marine tourism, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
The MoU’s goal is to enhance research, deliver innovation, and improve the visitor experience for tourists in Saudi Arabia’s existing, emerging, and future Red Sea coastal destinations.
SRSA Acting CEO Mohammed Al-Nasser and NEOM’s CEO Nadhmi Al-Nasr signed the partnership, which they hope will promote an exchange of expertise and enable the implementation of joint initiatives.
The agreement also reflects SRSA’s commitment to attracting investment in coastal tourism activities.
The partnership will further assist small and medium enterprises in the sector through administrative, technical, and advisory support.
Via this agreement, SRSA aims to integrate with relevant public, private, and third-sector entities to achieve one of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which is to develop coastal tourism as a valuable sector of the Kingdom’s economy.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday demanded an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza along with a humanitarian corridor for international aid agencies to provide relief to the people of Palestine ahead of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s summit in Gambia this weekend.
The ceasefire call was issued by the country’s newly appointed deputy prime minister, Ishaq Dar, while addressing the summit’s preparatory meeting in the Gambian capital of Banjul, where he arrived on Wednesday.
Dar is scheduled to participate in the OIC summit, convened to discuss and address major issues affecting the Muslim world, ranging from political and economic challenges to social and cultural matters.
These summits aim to promote Muslim solidarity in social and political affairs, coordinate efforts to safeguard the interests and well-being of Muslims and work toward resolving conflicts and issues in the Muslim world.
“Dar expressed Pakistan’s deep concern about the ongoing genocide and starvation of Gaza people and called for the reactivation of OIC’s Ministerial Committee on Israeli aggression against the Palestinians, offering Pakistan’s assistance to the body,” said the state-owned Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) news agency.
The report said he called for an end the Israeli siege leading to a humanitarian crisis for the people of Palestine and to hold Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration accountable for its “war crimes.”
“Ishaq Dar stressed the imperative of joint action by the OIC to confront rising Islamophobia, which was manifested by an increasing number of incidents of discrimination, violence, and incitement against Muslims around the world,” the APP report continued.
“He stated that while global social media platforms had set for themselves a clear understanding and the responsibility of content relating to ‘Antisemitism’ and ‘Holocaust denial’, same was not the case for blasphemous and anti-Islamic content that was responsible for widespread distress among Muslims and the global wave of Islamophobia,” it added.
The Pakistani deputy prime minister is scheduled to interact with leaders of other Muslim states at the two-day OIC summit beginning on Saturday.
Housing minister meets with Chinese officials to boost Sino-Saudi cooperation, achieve Vision 2030 targets

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s housing minister has returned from a trip to Beijing where he met with Chinese sector officials to “solidify the partnership between the two nations in construction and real estate development,” the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.
Majed Al-Hogail held a meeting with China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong and Fang Qiuchen, the president of the China International Contractors Association.
Their discussions focused on developing joint housing policies and programs, exchanging expertise in city planning and sustainable urban development, and exploring investments in construction technology, SPA added.
Al-Hogail’s visit also explored the possibility of attracting Chinese companies specializing in building, construction, maintenance, and cleaning services to the Saudi Arabian market.
During his trip, Al-Hogail signed agreements and memoranda of understanding with major Chinese construction companies.
The Kingdom’s partnership with China to develop its housing sector is part of Saudi Vision 2030’s target of increasing home ownership in Saudi Arabia to 70 percent by improving housing affordability by the end of the decade.

RIYADH: For centuries, the juniper tree has proudly stood as a symbol of picturesque beauty in Al-Baha region, adorning its slopes and mountain peaks with vibrant green hues.
Nourished by recent heavy rains in the region, these majestic trees have flourished, forming expansive forests that eagerly await the arrival of summer, and the embrace of nature enthusiasts seeking tranquility and solace.
Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Qudwa, a representative of the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification in the Al-Baha region, told the Saudi Press Agency that juniper trees make up 30 percent of wild plants in Al-Baha.
The coniferous trees and shrubs can also been found in forested areas of Baljurashi, Beni Hassan, and Al-Mandaq governorates.
Al-Qudwa said that the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification, through its forest department in the region, is dedicated to year-round efforts aimed at preserving forests, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding the juniper, Al-Atm, and talh populations.
These endeavors align closely with the strategic objectives outlined in the national action plan for forests in the Kingdom, a crucial component of Saudi Vision 2030.
Al-Qudwa said that security and protection patrols stationed at forest sites throughout the region swiftly intervene to address violations such as unauthorized tree felling or logging.
Patrols can impose penalties in accordance with legal provisions and regulations, ensuring accountability through investigations carried out by inspectors and observers.
Heavy rainfall this year has been beneficial for juniper trees, which have responded with alluring fragrance, interwoven branches, and evergreen foliage.
Junipers are a central feature of the natural forests in the Al-Baha region. Their verdant presence not only enhances the allure of the landscape, but also serves as vital vegetation, safeguarding waterfalls, regulating rainwater runoff, and protecting against erosion.
The majestic trees are also a major attraction for tourists.
More than 30 forests in the Al-Baha region welcomed visitors earlier than usual this year, coinciding with a surge in weekend visitors from within and outside the Kingdom.
Authorities in the region are working tirelessly to prepare the forests, which are complemented by numerous parks, gardens, and traditional villages, for the large number of visitors.
This effort aims to uphold the region’s tourist status by also offering a wide range of activities and services.
