Abdulrahman Al-Asem has been CEO of the Saudi Libraries Authority since February 2020, and is responsible for the development of the libraries sector with all related systems, staff and infrastructure.

Al-Asem is an associate professor at the College of Computer and Information Sciences at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) in Riyadh.

He is a professional in information and library management, and a higher-education quality and academic accreditation expert who has worked in creative and cultural industries in Saudi Arabia and abroad.

He gained a bachelor’s degree in information sciences from King Saud University in 1999 and received a high diploma in computer applications from the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2001.  

In 2007, Al-Asem was awarded a master’s degree in information sciences from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, where he also received a Ph.D. in the same major four years later.

Al-Asem worked as supervisor of the Riyadh International Book Fair in 2017 and 2018 and the Jeddah International Book Fair in 2017.

Additionally, he oversaw the setting up of the Center for Documentation and Archives at IMSIU from February 2016 to January 2017.

Al-Asem worked at the deputy deanship of graduate for development and quality at IMSIU from June 2014 to January 2017.

From December 2012 to June 2016, he chaired the information studies department at IMSIU’s College of Computer and Information Sciences, and also served as the department’s deputy from September 2012 to December the same year.
