Foreign Office (FO) summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Hotspring’s sector resulting in the Shahadat of one innocent civilian (Chaudry Muzaffar s/o Alif resident of village Dehra Sher Khan).

During his weekly media briefing here, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said the Indian forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary (WB) are continuously targeting civilian populated areas with heavy weapons. In 2018, the Indian forces have carried out more than 1,000 ceasefire violations along the LoC and WB resulting in the Shahadat of 24 innocent civilians, while injuring 107 others.

He said the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir continued to endure untold sufferings, and face gross and systematic violations of their human rights, use of pellet guns and extra-judicial killings by the occupation forces.

While the Indian occupation forces constantly terrorize the people of Jammu and Kashmir with violent operations, fake encounters, illegal house searches, targeting people and damaging properties in Srinagar, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Kupwara, Bandipore and Baramulla districts of Indian occupied Kashmir.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan remained in full solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, calling upon the world community to play its rightful role in promoting a just and lasting solution of the dispute.

To a question, Dr Faisal said the 4th meeting of Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS) was held on May 14, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen their bilateral relationship at multifaceted level.

The delegations were led by Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai and Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and In pursuance of the seven principles agreed in the meeting.

APAPPS provides a framework to deepen interaction in all spheres of bilateral engagements. It is also a mechanism for finding solutions to bilateral areas of concern. Both sides agreed that effective and full implementation of APAPPS would contribute towards the common objectives of eliminating terrorism and achieving peace, stability, prosperity and development of the people of the two countries.

To an other question, he said Pakistan has noted with grave concern that despite calls by the international community to comply with UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions on the two-state solution, US has moved its Embassy to the Holy City of Jerusalem.

This represents a violation of international law and several United Nations Security Council resolutions, in particular resolutions 476 and 478.
The government and people of Pakistan stand firmly with the Palestinian people also renews the call for establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous state of Palestine, on the basis of internationally agreed parameters, the pre-1967 borders, and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, he added.

Suicide bomber kills at least five at wedding in northwest Pakistan

  • Attack took place in Dera Ismail Khan, targeting the home of a local peace committee member
  • Peace committees are community-based groups that report militant activity to security forces

PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber killed at least five people and wounded 10 others after detonating explosives at a wedding ceremony in northwestern Pakistan on Friday, officials said, in an attack that underscored persistent militant violence in the country’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The blast took place at the home of a local peace committee member in Dera Ismail Khan district, where guests had gathered for a wedding, police and emergency officials said.

Peace committees in the region are informal, community-based groups that work with security forces to report militant activity and maintain order, making their members frequent targets of attacks.

“A blast occurred near Qureshi Moor in Dera Ismail Khan. Authorities have recovered five bodies and shifted 10 injured to hospital,” said Bilal Faizi, a spokesman for the provincial Rescue 1122 emergency service, adding that the rescue operation was ongoing.

Police said the attacker blew himself up inside the house during the ceremony and that the bomber’s head had been recovered, confirming it was a suicide attack.

Several members of the local peace committee were present at the time, raising fears the toll could rise.

District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada said authorities had launched an investigation into the incident, while security forces sealed off the area.

Militant attacks have surged in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the Taliban returned to power in neighboring

Afghanistan in 2021, with the administration in Islamabad blaming the Afghan government for “facilitating” cross-border attacks targeting Pakistani civilians and security forces. However, Kabul has repeatedly denied the allegation.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also seen frequent intelligence-based operations by security forces targeting suspected militants.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack.
