France jails murderer who scattered wife’s remains in Paris park

PARIS: A man who strangled his wife before cutting up her body and scattering it in a Paris park in 2023 was jailed for 27 years on Friday.
Park workers discovered a plastic bag containing parts of her body in Buttes-Chaumont park, a popular spot for picnicking families and joggers in the northeast of the French capital. Her head was found the following day.
Investigators said the couple were originally from Algeria and had three children. They lived in the Paris suburbs but had drifted apart and were struggling financially.
After killing his wife, he laid her body on the sofa, covered it with a blanket, and told their children not to bother her because she was tired. He then went out to buy an angle grinder.
Although he sent messages to her phone asking where she was, he later confessed to police.
A Paris court sentenced the 53-year-old for murder on Friday.
