TEHRAN: Twelve people from the fashion industry in Iran have been jailed for “spreading prostitution” via images posted online, BBC reported on Monday.
The eight women and four men were handed sentences of between five months and six years by a court in Shiraz, a lawyer told the Ilna news agency.
They were also banned from working in fashion and traveling abroad for two years afterward, Mahmoud Taravat said.
He added that his clients had denied the charges and planned to appeal.
The 12 were convicted of charges including spreading prostitution and promoting corruption via the publication of obscene images online, inciting Muslims to corrupt themselves through putting on fashion shows, and spreading a “Western-style culture of nudity.”

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates said that Algeria's notification to terminate an air services agreement between the two countries will not have any "immediate impact on flight operations", the state news agency WAM reported on Sunday, citing the country's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
On Saturday, Algeria said it has begun the process of cancelling its air services agreement with the UAE, signed in Abu Dhabi in 2013.
GCAA said the air services agreement with Algeria remained in force "during the legally mandated notice period," without giving further details.
