Toastmasters shine at Riyadh event

RIYADH: Toastmasters International District 79 in Riyadh hosted its 15th annual conference at Al-Faisal University amid much fanfare where contestants impressed the audience with their powerful performances.
The conference was divided into different segments that included humorous and international speeches, speech evaluation and table topics contests during which participants showed talent and enthusiasm.
The Toastmasters spoke on various topics in the competitive atmosphere.
Winners at the recently held function included Mohammed Mubin (Humorous Speech), Antony Menachery (Table Topics), Adam Taha (International Speech) and Thom Banatao (Speech Evaluation).
Samer Kamal, Saif Ali Sheikh and Sanjay Mahat jointly conducted the program.
Last year Mohammed Al-Qahtani of District 79 emerged world champion, which is a reason why contestants were excited to perform and become the next champion of public speaking.
Bazm-e-Urdu Toastmasters Club also hosted their Golden Jubilee Meet, which was attended by hundreds of members of the local community and cultural organizations.
Abdur Rahman Saleem, former president, welcomed the Urdu lovers to the function moderated by Shahbaz Farooqui.

GCC secretary general receives China’s special envoy to Middle East

  • Jun praised the GCC states’ prudent domestic, regional, and international policies, which have established the council as a reliable and important partner for China

RIYADH: Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi received China’s special envoy for the Middle East Issue, Zhai Jun, at the General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh on Sunday.

During the meeting, Al-Budaiwi expressed appreciation for China’s condemnation of Iranian attacks on GCC states and for Beijing’s efforts with all parties to halt the conflict and end the escalation, according to a General Secretariat statement. 

Jun praised the GCC states’ prudent domestic, regional, and international policies, which have established the council as a reliable and important partner for China. He added that the GCC’s commitment to restraint during the crisis reflects these policies.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming China-GCC summit later this year and discussed progress in negotiations toward a free trade agreement between the two sides.
