ISLAMABAD: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will distribute over 14,000 Ramadan ration bags among needy people in impoverished districts in Pakistan's Sindh and Balochistan provinces, Abu Dhabi Mayor Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said late last week.
The Islamic fasting month of Ramadan brings with it blessings and religious fervor. Muslims all over the world celebrate and share these blessings with their brothers and sisters throughout the month.
For the last 16 years, the office of Abu Dhabi Mayor Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has been distributing foodstuff among needy Pakistani families, it said in a statement.
"This year 12,000 foodstuff packages for families in the area of Sindh (Sakro, Larkana, Geibi Dero, Khairpur, Sanghar, Umer Kot & Nawab Shah) and Balochistan (Lehri, Domki), approx 2,600 foodstuff packages, especially for Kathore," are being distributed, the statement read.
Sheikh Hamdan's office said the food packages consist of flour, sugar, spices, ghee, dates and rice in maximum quantities, and each one was enough for a family to use for two months.
On Sunday, UAE Consul General in Karachi Bakheet Ateeq Ali Alayan Alremeithi supervised the annual food distribution at the Abu Dhabi Palace in Kathore town, on behalf of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
Pakistan and the UAE have close fraternal relations and bilateral cooperation in a range of fields.
The UAE is Pakistan’s largest trading partner in the Middle East and home to more than 1.6 million Pakistanis.
