ISLAMABAD: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week launched the ‘Emirates Humanitarian’ medical campaign in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province to provide health facilities to the poor.
The UAE runs several medical campaigns and humanitarian assistance programs in Pakistan.
On Monday, the UAE consulate general in Karachi said it was running the new campaign in coordination with the Pakistani ministry of health.
“’Emirates Humanitarian’ campaign started a new stage of its missions in the Province of #Sindh to alleviate the suffering of poor patients under the slogan ‘On the footsteps of #Zayed’ with the coordination of #Pakistan Ministry of Health and the Consulate General of #UAEm” the Karachi consulate said in a tweet.
UAE and Pakistan signed a $200 million cooperation agreement in 2018 to execute Phase III of the UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme (UAE-PAP). Previous phases of the program include the UAE Polio Vaccination Campaign, launched by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in 2011.
According to the Emirates News Agency, more than 86 million Pakistani children under the age of five were vaccinated against polio between 2014 and December 2020 under the UAE-funded assistance program.
