ISLAMABAD: Two Pakistani soldiers were killed in a militant attack in southwestern Balochistan province, the Pakistani military said on Friday.
Balochistan, the largest province of Pakistan in terms of land area, has long been marred by a separatist insurgency and sectarian divides that have claimed hundreds of lives.
On Friday, militants targeted a security forces check-post in Kech district of the Balochistan, the Pakistani military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement.
"During exchange of fire, Lance Naik Manzar Abbas, resident of District Khushab and Sepoy Abdul Fath, resident of Khuzdar embraced martyrdom," the ISPR said.
"A follow-up operation is in progress in the area to search fleeing terrorists."
Security forces were determined to defeat such acts of inimical elements, aimed at disrupting peace, stability and progress of Balochistan, the ISPR added.
Late last month, two Pakistani soldiers were killed in a similar attack on a checkpoint near the border with Iran. The attack took place in Tump area of the same district.
The checkpoint near the border was established to prevent movement of militants into urban areas.
