ISLAMABAD: The Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, and Religious Attaché in charge of Pakistan, Mutaib bin Muhammad Al-Jedaei, inaugurated the distribution of Ramadan food baskets, dates and copies of the Holy Quran in Islamabad on Wednesday.
As an annual feature, the Saudi Embassy in Pakistan donates Ramadan food packages to the needy in various regions and provinces of the country, while the Saudi government distributes tons of dates during the month.
“The Ministry of Saudi Arabia is implementing three programs through the Religious Attaché in Pakistan during the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1443 AH, in cooperation with the Islamic societies in various cities and regions of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” the Saudi Embassy said in a statement.
“Three programs included 1,750 integrated Ramadan baskets, benefiting 14,000, in addition to distributing 12 tons of luxury dates, 24,000 copies of the Noble Quran and translation of the meanings of the Noble Quran in Urdu and Sindhi and Pashto language, and will be implemented and distributed in coordination with the official Islamic societies,” Al-Jadaei said.
Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, where Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset for a month. This is followed by the sighting of the new moon and is marked by Eid-ul-Fitr, a religious holiday and celebration that is observed by Muslims across the world.
