ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's human rights minister Shireen Mazari reiterated her country's "unflinching support" to the people of Palestine while attending the 49th Regular Session of Human Rights Council in Geneva, said her office in Islamabad in a Twitter post on Tuesday.
The minister issued the statement during her meeting with the foreign minister of the State of Palestine Riad Al Maliki.
Pakistan has always remained a staunch supporter of an independent Palestinian state. It also allowed the Palestinian Authority to establish its embassy in Islamabad in January 2017.
"Minister @ShireenMazari1 met with the Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine, Mr. Riad Al Maliki," the human rights ministry said on Twitter. "They discussed ways in which cooperation may be carried forward. She assured him of Pakistan's continuing commitment and unflinching support for the Palestinian cause."
Mazari met Al Maliki on Monday when she also delivered a speech about the human rights situation in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Last year, Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also held a meeting with his Palestinian counterpart and expressed his country's support to the two-state solution in West Asia.
Qureshi also condemned Israel's airstrikes on Gaza in violation of a ceasefire understanding.
Pakistan's foreign office has frequently urged the international community to resolve the Palestinian issue in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.
It also maintains that the Palestinian state should have pre-1967 border with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
