ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday the country needed urgent steps to protect its youth from “immoral alien culture” that was spreading through modern means of communication, said an official statement released by his office.

The prime minister made the statement while chairing the meeting of newly established Rahmatul-lil-Aalameen Authority in the federal capital which was also attended by the ministers of education, religious affairs and prominent national scholars.

Some international religious personalities also joined the gathering via video link.

The authority was formed last month to monitor the media and national curriculum along religious lines. The body seeks to help familiarize children and other people with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The authority would also “conduct research in universities” and suggest necessary reforms to bring the Pakistani society in lines with Islam.

The prime minister said the country needed to follow the “glorious traditions” set by the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) to bring about a positive social change.

“The purpose of establishing the Rahmatul-lil-Aalameen Authority is to inculcate moral and ethical values in our young generation which is being exposed to all sorts of unethical content online in this age of Internet penetration,” the PM said.

He directed the authorities concerned to conduct credible research on how to effectively ensure character building of the country’s tech-savvy youth.

“He [the prime minister] emphasized the necessity of introducing changes in the curriculum for educating students at school, college and university levels in light of the glorious teachings of Seerst-e-Tayyaba [the Prophet’s life],” said the statement released by the PM office.
