ISLAMABAD: Three militants affiliated with Hafiz Gul Bahadur group were killed in an intelligence-based operation conducted by Pakistan’s security agencies on Saturday in North Waziristan tribal district bordering Afghanistan.

Pakistan launched a major military operation in the area against the same outfit in 2014 for hosting foreign nationals belonging to various transnational militant groups.

According to a statement released by the military’s media wing, ISPR, on Saturday, security personnel carried out two separate operations in the region after getting intelligence information on the presence of militants.

“In the first operation, a high value terrorist commander was apprehended in injured condition along with [three] other terrorists,” said the statement. “In the second operation, 3 terrorists got killed.”

The ISPR said the security forces managed to recover weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices from militant hideouts.

“All the terrorists (killed and apprehended) were affiliated with Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group,” it added.

The statement said these militants were “actively involved in terrorist activities” against security forces and indulged in extortion and killing of innocent civilians.
