ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Thursday promulgated an ordinance to establish the ‘Rehmatullil Aalamin (blessing for all the worlds)’ Authority, Pakistani media reported, announced last week by the prime minister to portray the ‘true image’ of Islam, research the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and monitor the media and school curriculum.

PM Imran Khan made the announcement about the new authority at a conference in Islamabad last Sunday that marked the start of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, which holds special significance for Muslims who observe the 12th of the month as Mawlid Al-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

“Prime Minister Imran Khan will be the patron-in-chief of the authority, which will consist of one chairman and six members,” Geo News reported. “The authority will ensure the implementation of the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in society.”

PM Khan said last week the new authority would bring together Islamic scholars of international repute to help familiarize children and elders to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and tell the world, particularly the West, that Islam was a religion of love and humanity. 

“I have decided to form Rehmatullil Aalamin authority, this authority will have scholars whose responsibility would be to [study the life of Prophet (PBUH)] and suggest what needs to be taught to children and elders,” Khan said. “One scholar will be responsible to monitor media, social media. We cannot stop [social media], but we can give alternate choices.” 

The prime minister said cartoons shown in the country depicted an alien culture and were “indoctrination.”

“If we cannot stop those [cartoon], at least we should be capable of making our own cartoon [videos],” he said. 

PM Khan said he himself would be the “patron” of this authority and the government was already looking for a chairman to run it.

“There will be an advisory board [for this authority] and we would bring top scholars from the world on the board,” he said. 

The job of these scholars would be to “monitor” school curriculum, according to the premier” “[Scholars] will monitor how [children] are studying, does that [curriculum] need any changes. There will be discussion among scholars.”
