ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military on Saturday successfully conducted a test flight of a surface-to-surface ballistic missile, the military’s media wing said.
“Pakistan today conducted a successful flight test of Shaheen-III surface to surface ballistic missile,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, adding that the test was aimed at revalidating various design and technical parameters of the weapon system.
Pakistan’s missile program is primarily aimed at countering threats from neighboring India. The two nuclear-armed nations have fought three wars over the course of seven decades. Relations between the two remain tense over the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, claimed in full by both India and Pakistan and ruled in part.
India last month said it had accidentally fired a missile into Pakistan because of a "technical malfunction" during routine maintenance. Islamabad has called for a joint investigation and asked international bodies to hold India accountability.
